Where it all began.
Carp fishing has been ingrained into Dave’s soul for as long as he can remember, A passion that has led him around the world to fish some amazing waters in search of wild carp, his favourite destination France with its massive inland lakes and wild rivers is where he now calls home and also where he met his partner to be.
Carp Pirates Adventures like most small business first started as an idea based on personal experiences, a lifelong passion and the need to provide for his permanent new life in France.
Dave has had lots of prior experience, he towed his first carp boat from the Netherlands to France over fifteen years ago with a dream of fishing wild and untapped public waters, at that time he already had a following of captivated anglers who were very interested in his wild and free lifestyle, he had contemplated turning his passion into a business with boat and bivvy trips across France but with all dreams - funds are needed to turn them into reality, so Dave reluctantly had to return to the UK only returning to France periodically to fuel his need to explore.
Dave took his HGV licence and rented out his house out in the UK, the idea being to live in the trucks and work for long periods of time allowing him to save money to be able to fund his French dream, it was a demanding and tough time especially during Covid with drivers expected to work longer hours in exhausting conditions.
Dave found himself missing the freedom and challenges that came with his previous French lifestyle and decided France was definitely where he wanted to be.
Not least because on one of his many trips, he met a flamboyant and creative girl who had unexpectedly lite a spark, soon to become the love of his life, Dave had met Jacqui, his now life partner and best friend.
In September 2020 Dave moved permanently to France to be with his soul mate Jacqui who was already living in France.
Jacqui sold her farm in Normandy and Dave sold his home in the UK; this enabled them to fund their new life in the South of France within the glorious Lot Valley. It certainly hasn’t been plain sailing but after many highs and lows, Dave and Jacqui have finally settled, their home is quite incredible, albeit it took a long time to find and a lot of stress and red tape to finally acquire it, not to mention the administration!
Dave decided this was the time to launch Carp Pirates Adventures, he has the experience and knowledge and now a base on the banks of the river, all he needed was the boat and the customers. Just a small challenge for you Dave! Oh, and a very, very big investment. While waiting for the boat to arrive from the Netherlands along with all the tackle and kit, Dave started the long-drawn-out process of taking all the necessary steps to set up a business legally in the South of France.
The Carp Pirates dream is now a reality, operating on the river Lot 2025.
